Overstone Gates |

| One Way System now back in operation |
| The one-way traffic system using the main security gates at Overstone Camping Ground has now been reinstated as from November 10th 2008.
Would you please ensure that colleagues and parents are made aware of this traffic change and that the speed limit is still 5 mph?
Will you also make sure that both sets of gates are closed or locked at the appropriate times etc, particularly during mid-week evenings?

Climbing Training |

| The first climbing training and assessment evening has proved this is very popular. |
| With a large turnout, and large range of skill level from beginner to experienced instructor being reassessed for a permit, these evneings suit everyone interested in providing climbing to our young people.

Yr Hen Felin - Cottage Refurbishment |

| Our cottage next to Yr Hen Felin in Cynwyd is currently being refurbished. |
| Work is well underway to develop the derelict cottage to provide a comfortable 4-6 bed accomodation with kitchen and living facilities.
The facility will be hired out on its own or in addition to the Old Mill, and will offer smaller groups a base for activity trips and recce visits, family vacations, or add disabled facilities to the main centre. More news soon on this exciting development. |

Tree Planting reaches 500,000 |

| Some Northampton groups have contributed to the 'Scouts for Trees' scheme's recent successes. |
| Scouts for Trees, a partnership between the Woodland Trust and the Scouts Association, has resulted in 500,000 trees being planted by Scouts. Across the UK, 100 woods have been created to celebrate the Centenary of Scouting.

| The Explorer Scout Tall Ships expedition in Summer 2008 has taken on a third voyage. Now recruiting Explorers & Leaders |
| Having taken on a third week aboard a ship from Cowes down to Spain and Portugal, there are spaces for another 20 young people. More information on the trip can be found at oceanexplorer2008.org.uk Or by emailing the leader team. Also looking for two more leaders to staff the additional voyage - applicants please email. |

| The scout shop has taken delivery of its first stock for the outdoor centre, items for nights away and expedition . |
| The scout shop are now stocking much more than items just for scouting, new items on sale include Beaver Sleepover packs and cub camp packs, Which include sleeping bags etc. First aid kits, Hydration packs and 65L rucksacs are some of the new items all at very reasonable prices. If we don't stock something you need then ask anyway and we will probably be able to order it in for you. |

Tree Planting |

| Free tree packs for Scout Groups. Trees wanted at Overstone! |
| Free tree and hedge packs are available from: http://www.treeforall.org.uk/Scouts/.
Some groups already ordered and planted their trees back in November. We are in the process of planting a new hedge to surround the wood at overstone, and to plant some trees throughout the site. This is an ideal conservation activity for sections, covering the Environmental programme zone. We can guide you as to where to plant these. |

| Updated scout sectional resources will be coming on line in the new year, order early at the Northampton scout shop. |
| As you will be aware new badges have recently been issued and more will come on line shortly, the publications for all sections have been revised to cover the new programme. These publications will be available in February, in order to help us gauge what stock to order can you please complete the attached order form for your Group and return it to Northampton Scout Shop by January 20th 2008.

Jamboree On The Air |

| The 50th Annual JOTA was held in October and our young people talked to Scouts across the world. |
| The Northampton Scout Amateur Radio Group made contact with a Scout leader in Thailand and another station in the Philippines, as well as Scouts from the USA and Canada. Stations closer to home included Gilwell Park, the Netherlands, Italian Scouts and the World Scout Bureau in Geneva amoungst many others.
On Saturday evening everyone enjoyed a piece of cake to celebrate 50 years of Jamboree on the Air. |
