Cub Scouts

Cub Scouts are young people, boys and girls, usually aged between eight and ten years old. There are loads of fun things that you can do as a Cub Scout. They will get a chance to try lots of different activities like swimming, music, exploring, computing and collecting. If they do them properly they will get a badge, which they can wear, on their uniform.

Programme Zones split the whole programme into manageable areas. Each Zone represents a different development area in a young person's life.

There are seven Programme Zones in Cub Scouting. These are:

  • Outdoor Scouting.
  • Fitness.
  • Discovering the World Around You.
  • Creative.
  • Beliefs and Attitudes.
  • Caring and Community.
  • Global.

As part of the Balanced Programme across the Programme Zones, we aim to use a variety of methods within the Cub Pack. They make the meetings more interested and appeal to more of the Cub Scouts.

  • Games
  • Make things.
  • Singing, stories, drama.
  • Visits and visitors.
  • Outdoors.
  • Activities with others.
  • Help other people.
  • Themes.
  • Prayer, worship and reflection.
  • Team challenges.
  • Try new things.

Underpinning the programmes we offer to the Cub Scouts are seven ways of working which should be present in every programme. The following underlying ways of working should always be used in the programmes:

  • Fun.
  • Getting on with others.
  • Activity.
  • Keeping the Promise.
  • Personal development.
  • Working together.
  • Responsibility.

The Cub Scout Promise is:

“I promise that I will do my best

To do my duty to God and to the Queen,

To help other people

And to keep the Cub Scout Law”.

The Cub Scout Law is:

“Cub Scouts always do their best

Think of others before themselves

And do a good turn every day”.

The Cub Scout Motto is:

“Be Prepared”
